NOS image catalog

The NOS image catalog is your list of network operating system images: Cisco IOSv, Nexus 9000v, Arista cEOS, Juniper vMX, firewalls and so on. Lab devices point to an image here, which is how NetSimLab knows each device’s default resources and whether it runs on a lab’s simulator.

  1. Open NOS image catalog and click + Add image.
  2. Fill in:
    • Vendor, Image / node name (e.g. “Catalyst 8000v”), NOS and Version.
    • Format (QCOW2, VMDK, IOL binary, container image, OVA, IMG, ISO, BIN or other), Filename / container reference, Size (MB) and Checksum (MD5 / SHA256).
    • Default vCPU and Default RAM (MB): used for every device that uses this image, unless the device overrides them.
    • Interface naming (e.g. GigabitEthernet0/0, Ethernet1/1).
    • Supported simulation platforms: tick GNS3, EVE-NG, Cisco CML and/or Containerlab.
    • Default credentials, Licensing and Notes.
  3. Save.

Filter by vendor or platform, or type in Filter by vendor, NOS, version, file…. The In use column shows how many lab devices use each image. An image can’t be deleted while devices still use it.

Two optional fields matter when NetSimLab talks to devices in GNS3:

  • Config show command(s): the command used to read a device’s running configuration. NetSimLab already picks the right one for common NOSes (show running-config for Cisco and Arista, show configuration | display set for Junos, info flat from running for SR Linux, and so on). Set this only to override it.
  • Netmiko device type: how GNS3 3.1 drives the device’s console (e.g. cisco_ios_telnet, arista_eos_telnet). Again chosen automatically from the NOS; set it only to override.
